About Commerce Plaza...

Commerce Plaza is a unique, hands-on educational program that introduces children to the business community through a simulated work environment.

Children are exposed to the world of business and basic economic principles.

Elementary school students learn about the free enterprise system, careers, economics, citizenship and the general skills needed in the world of work.

Students receive paychecks, make bank deposits, write checks, operate businesses, prepare cost sheets, think critically and work as a team.

A little history...

In 1996, Commerce Plaza Incorporated established its own not-for-profit status. It has a governing board of fifteen voluntary members who represent the business, education and non-profit sectors.

Commerce Plaza opened its doors to students in May 2000. Since that time, over 17,000 fifth and sixth graders from school districts throughout Long Island have participated in the program. Commerce Plaza is administered through YES Community Counseling Center, a non-profit organization serving the needs of children and families. YES Community Couseling Center is located at 75 Grand Avenue, Massapeque, NY 11758.

Now located on the grounds of Plainedge School District, Commerce Plaza continues to receive growing support from businesses who contribute at various partnership levels.
